Yeah, we know what you’re thinking — the Eye of Agamotto has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since 2016’s Doctor Strange, so why is the eye part of something that needs further explanation in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse

Doctor Strange is a 2016 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a 2022 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics featuring the character Doctor Strange.

While the third eye that Doctor Strange has in the comics as a result of the temporary effects of the Eye of Agamotto has a purpose, the third eye that he has in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still quite ambiguous in the sense that we are not yet aware of what it does for him. –

So when the third eye popped up on the forehead of Sinister Strange, we assumed that it represents evil and its appearance is a result of Sinister Strange opening and using the demonic Darkhold book. The thing is, the ‘third eye’ appears on Doctor Stephen Strange at the end of the movie, as he screams out in pain. –

Regardless of how Sinister Strange got the third eye, what the fans are looking forward to is whether Doctor Strange will get his own version of it. –

While there’s a clear link between the Darkhold and Doctor Strange’s third eye, it doesn’t appear to have totally overwritten the good in the sorcerer. In the post-credits scene, the eye appears on Doctor Strange’s head after he agrees to assist Clea with fixing the Incursion between universes. –

We don’t know exactly what that means for the Strange in the MCU, yet the third eye has been part of Strange’s life for some time in the comics.

The Eye of Agamotto is a separate magical artifact from the Time Stone. The Time Stone may be destroyed, but Strange still has the Eye.

The Eye of Agamotto is inspired by both the All-Seeing Eye of Buddha and the spiritual tradition of the third eye (also known as the inner eye). As a result of this, the Eye Of Agamotto has sometimes actually risen out of the amulet where Doctor Strange houses it, and come to rest on his forehead like a third eye. –

We then see Sinister Strange with a third eye on his forehead, seemingly a physical manifestation of the impact dark magic has had on him. Just before the credits roll, Strange 616 is seen walking down the streets of New York, happily vibing to the music. However, he doubles over in pain before realizing the eye has emerged on his forehead.

According to, Another theory is that Doctor Strange is wearing a different Eye. In the comic books, there are three Eyes created by Agamotto and each has different powers. One was for Truth, one for Power, and the third for Prescience.
